Submission to ICESCR

Making Rights Real has today submitted evidence to the UN, highlighting breaches to economic, social and cultural rights by duty bearers in Scotland.

The communities we are working alongside have carried out research around the right to an adequate standard of living including the right to housing, experiences of living with poverty and the right to health. Their views are central to our report.

We have highlighted issues around:

  • The legacy of the Tinker Experiment in Scotland
  • Gypsy Travellers rights to culturally appropriate housing
  • The impact of poverty and the cost of living crisis for women and girls
  • Breaches in the right to accessible healthcare in North Highland.

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will consider the report as it examines the record of the United Kingdon (including Scotland) in February.

Our thanks to the communities we are working alongside for their work on economic, social and cultural rights.
